Project Update – XV232 Repositioning plan

The Nimrod Preservation Group XV232 CIC team met this week to review progress and coordinate preparations for the next phase of the aircraft relocation project.

One topic of discussion was the possibility of temporarily moving XV232 to another location near Hangar 7 at Coventry Airport to provide improved working access while disassembly and transport preparations continue. At this stage, the move remains a proposal only and has not yet been formally approved, with further discussions ongoing between project representatives, airport contacts and partner organisations.

The team reviewed logistics planning surrounding the proposed move, including site access arrangements, equipment positioning, transport vehicle coordination and aircraft handling requirements. Volunteers have also continued work preparing engine stands, scaffolding, transport pallets and specialist equipment needed for the controlled dismantling and relocation of the aircraft.

Progress has also continued on preparations for the removal and storage of Rolls-Royce Spey engines, with ongoing coordination taking place with the RAF Manston History Museum regarding long-term preservation and display plans as part of the growing strategic partnership between both organisations.

The meeting also covered fuel drainage procedures, hydraulic jack inspections and potential storage solutions for aircraft components during the relocation programme.
