What is the Nimrod Preservation Group XV232?
The Nimrod Preservation Group XV232 CIC is a volunteer-led organisation dedicated to preserving the historic Hawker Siddeley Nimrod XV232 — one of the last surviving examples of Britain’s iconic maritime patrol aircraft.
Since arriving at Coventry Airport in 2010, XV232 has been maintained and cared for by a dedicated team of volunteers, many of whom have served on or worked with the Nimrod fleet throughout their careers. Their efforts have helped preserve not only the aircraft itself, but also the knowledge, skills and stories associated with one of the RAF’s most important maritime patrol aircraft.
Securing the Future of XV232
Following the closure of Coventry Airport, the project has entered a new phase focused on the relocation and long-term preservation of XV232.
After detailed engineering assessments and project reviews, the option of a one-off ferry flight was determined to be unfeasible. Project efforts are now fully focused on the controlled relocation of the aircraft by road, including preparation, disassembly, transportation, reassembly and future restoration activities.
This approach provides the safest and most practical route to securing the long-term future of XV232 and ensuring that the aircraft can continue to educate and inspire future generations.
Working in Partnership
The Nimrod Preservation Group XV232 CIC is proud to be working in partnership with the RAF Manston History Museum to provide XV232 with a permanent future home.
Together, both organisations are committed to preserving this important piece of British aviation heritage, supporting heritage education, and developing opportunities for future public engagement once the aircraft has been successfully relocated and reassembled.
Volunteer Opportunities
The XV232 project is supported entirely by volunteers. We are always keen to hear from former aircrew, groundcrew, engineers, technicians and aviation enthusiasts who may be able to contribute their skills, knowledge or experience to the project.

Public Access
Due to the ongoing relocation and preservation project, public access to XV232, onboard tours, engine runs and regular visitor activities are currently suspended.
