Engineering Update – Preparing XV232 for Engine Removal

Operation Coastal Guardian continues to make steady technical progress as preparations begin for one of the most significant engineering milestones of the project – the removal of XV232’s Rolls-Royce Spey engines.

During this week’s engineering meeting the team reviewed the work required before lifting operations can begin.

Tasks include completing aircraft panel removal, confirming the engine lowering framework, preparing lifting equipment and ensuring the aircraft’s nose leg can be safely retracted.

Our volunteers also confirmed the successful restoration of aircraft electrical power after replacing two failed fuses, allowing further systems testing to continue.

Each of these individual jobs may seem small, but together they form the carefully planned sequence that will allow the engines to be removed safely and professionally.

The project continues to benefit from the knowledge of former RAF Nimrod engineers, many of whom carried out these very procedures during their service.
